Lack of Courage

California's Supreme Court did itself no favor today in its decision on the Prop 8 issue. Regardless of your stance on the issue of same-sex marriage, one can't help but note that lack of courage the CSC showed by upholding the voters ban but allowing those who already got married to stay married. Talk about making the hard decisions.

The CSC missed a chance today to put this issue to rest. Sure, striking down the voter's ban on same-sex marriage would have created a stir among the opponents and set up more legal wrangling, but overtime like the other states that have adopted gay marriages the fury would die down and acceptance would come over time. Instead, the CSC avoided its responsibility by trying to appease all sides. In the end, the satisfied no one.
